Abstract

The Ecuadorian Air Force constitutes a primary branch of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Ecuador, comprising both active aviation squadrons and essential support units. The research examines the technical evolution of the FAE, highlighting its transition to the "supersonic era" with the deployment of Jaguar and Mirage F.1 fighters, which proved decisive in regional conflicts. Special attention is paid to the current fleet modernization, including the induction of Super Tucano light fighters and the 2026 acquisition of the Boeing 737-500 to enhance mobility. Its operational mandate extends beyond traditional defense, actively encompassing counter-narcotics operations, as well as humanitarian and technical missions within the Amazon region. However, the continuous development of the Air Force is significantly constrained by national economic difficulties. Consequently, maintaining a robust and fully equipped aerial force remains a formidable challenge for the Ecuadorian state.
