| Abstract: | This research provides a technical evaluation of the methods used to maintain navigation service continuity within the Performance-Based Navigation (PBN) framework, focusing on the regional mainline aircraft Bombardier CRJ-200. The study identifies that continuity is achieved through a complex, multi-layered integration of inertial, satellite, and radio navigation sensors (ADF, NAV, DME, FMS). The author analyzes the structural architecture of the navigation suite, emphasizing the critical role of sensor complexing and the redundancy of control interfaces, specifically the Radio Tuning Units (RTU) and the Standby Tune Control Unit (STCU).A significant part of the analysis is dedicated to the interaction between primary and multifunction displays (PFD/MFD) and the manual reversionary logic facilitated by the Display Control (DCP) and Reversion (DRP) panels. A distinctive operational characteristic of the CRJ-200 is its reliance on human-centric failure management, where the flight crew must manually redistribute navigation data sources and display formats during sensor or power failures. The paper details a specific operational algorithm for a NAV1 receiver failure to illustrate the practical application of "Cross-side tuning" and backup frequency management. The findings conclude that on this class of aircraft, navigation continuity is a synergistic result of robust hardware redundancy and high pilot proficiency, underscoring that rigorous simulator training and deep systems knowledge are essential for maintaining PBN integrity during non-standard flight scenarios. |
